]]> From 5 to 8 August, the Department of Journalism and Communication at Hong Kong Chu Hai College, in partnership with Guangdong University of Finance and Economics (GDUFE), held the “Artificial Intelligence Communication Technology and New Media Development” academic exchange workshop. The programme aimed to sharpen participants’ media skills and foster a deeper appreciation of Hong Kong’s media landscape, while promoting cross-regional academic and cultural ties within the Greater Bay Area.

The opening and closing ceremonies were graced by academic leaders from both universities, including Professor Robert Li (Associate Vice-President for Academic & Research, HKCHC), Professor Fung Kam-wing (Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, HKCHC), Dr. Tracy Lee (Head of the Department of Journalism and Communication, HKCHC), Professor Ben Ting (Programme Director of Criminology and Criminal Justice, HKCHC), Professor Tong Wenxia (Associate Dean, GDUFE), and Dr. Chen Xiaoxi (Party Branch Secretary, GDUFE).

        The workshop offered hands-on training in television production, digital media applications, and the integration of AI with new media. A distinctive feature was the exploration of media’s relationship with criminology and criminal justice, where students used immersive AI technologies for crime-scene investigation simulation and gained practical experience in writing and editing crime and court news.

Guest speakers included Mr. Jacky Chu and Mr. Stephen Ma, Vice Presidents of the Hong Kong Film Post-Production Professionals Association, and Mr. Ng Ngai-ho, an alumnus of HKCHC and a current television news anchor, who shared practical insights on AI applications and the evolving media landscape.

Looking ahead, Professor Robert Li and Professor Tong Wenxia agreed to deepen collaboration between the two institutions, fostering continued academic and cultural exchange in the future.

The GDUFE student representative who re-joined the workshop this year says the workshop offers new perspectives and skills worthy of a “second coming”.

]]> On July 30, Hong Kong Chu Hai College held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Cooperation with the organizers of the 2nd AIGC Cultural Digital Content Creation Competition.

Dr. Tracy Lee, Head of the Department of Journalism and Communication, and Mr. Hui Chun Fai, Chairman of the International Music Festival, signed the agreement on behalf of the two parties, with Vice President (Academic & Research), Professor Robert Lee Kwok Yiu, witnessing the signing ceremony.

With the signing of the agreement, Hong Kong Chu Hai College officially became a co-organizer of the 2nd AIGC Cultural Digital Content Creation Competition.

The inaugural competition achieved remarkable results, and this year’s event aims to attract even more creative talent. The competition features four major categories: Image Creation, Video Creation, Music Creation, and Designer Toy Creation. The College will provide professional consultants and judges for the competition, as well as internship opportunities for Journalism and Communication students. The initiative seeks to integrate AIGC technology with local cultural and creative industries while providing a platform for young creators to showcase their talents.

然而，在經濟改變背後，沒有身份的尷尬、缺乏教育機會與難以融入社會等問題依然存在。影片透過兩位巴瑤族青年的故事，記錄這個海上民族如何在時代變遷中把握機遇，並嘗試為下一代創造未來。

]]> Hong Kong, June 12, 2026 — The Department of Journalism and Communication at Hong Kong Chu Hai College, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Association for Educational Communications and Technology (HKAECT), successfully organized a three-day international conference titled “EdTech: Revolutionising Education Through Technology” from June 10–12, 2026.

The conference brought together 45 scholars from the United States, Mainland China, and Hong Kong, with more than 100 participants attending both onsite and online.

The event commenced with welcoming speeches by Dr. Wendy Chan, President of HKAECT, and Professor Robert Li, Associate Vice President (Academic & Research) of Hong Kong Chu Hai College.

Five distinguished keynote speakers from prestigious institutions shared their insights:

  • Professor John Curry, President-Elect of AECT (USA)
  • Professor Fung Kam Wing, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Hong Kong Chu Hai College
  • Dr. Anna Tso, Head and Associate Professor, Department of English, Hang Seng University of Hong Kong
  • Professor Li Yan, Director of Curriculum and Learning Sciences and Director of the Research Center for AI in Education, Zhejiang University, China
  • Dr. Wong Chi Hung, Associate Professor, School of Arts and Social Sciences, Hong Kong Metropolitan University

In addition, three faculty members and one undergraduate student from the Department of Journalism and Communication presented their research findings.

A special symposium, “New Wine in Old Bottles: A Discussion on Popular Culture”, concluded the conference with contributions from media and academic experts:

  • Miss Lam Ho Yan, Senior Reporter, HoyTV
  • Dr. Lin Ka Chun, Lecturer, HKU Space-PLK
  • Mr. Pui Ho Fai, Lecturer, Hong Kong Shue Yan University

To recognize outstanding contributions, two Best Paper Awards were presented:

  • Dr. Frankie Har – Best Faculty Paper
  • Mr. Eric Chui – Best Student Paper Both recipients received certificates and a pair of the latest design earphones.

The conference concluded with a luncheon at the Gold Coast Hotel, where Dr. Wendy Chan, HKAECT Presidet, expressed gratitude to the organizing committee and participants for their dedication and contributions.

This international gathering highlighted the transformative role of technology in education and reinforced Hong Kong Chu Hai College’s commitment to fostering global academic exchange and innovation.

They are Miss Lam Ho Yan, HoyTV senior reporter, Dr. Lin Ka Chun, lecturer of HKU Space-PLK, and Mr. Pui Ho Fai, lecturer of Hong Kong Shue Yan University.

]]> This May, the exhibition brings together the ingenious masterpieces of our students, seamlessly fusing artistic creativity with cutting-edge technology to fully showcase their professional excellence. The event is packed with outstanding highlights: “In Search of the Peach Blossom Spring” focuses on the psychological dilemmas of modern individuals, exploring a spiritual sanctuary through an artistic lens; a video featuring the intangible cultural heritage of Qinqiang opera breathes new life into traditional theater, exuding the rich charm of Chinese style; the folk customs of traditional Chinese Nuo culture are also brought to life through an immersive theater experience; and an interactive AI fortune-telling piece via QR code scanning cleverly blends diverse artistic technology with folklore. More than 60 students from Ju Ching Chu Secondary School, along with industry experts, alumni, faculty, and students, gathered at the venue to immerse themselves in the creative power of the students. The vibrant atmosphere not only showcased the academic achievements of the graduates but also provided a premium platform for exchange and learning.
