Master of Arts in Arts Tech and Digital Communication Holds Symposium to Explore New Pathways in Performing Arts and Technology Integration

To bridge the gap between academia and industry while deepening students’ understanding of the role of arts technology in the innovative development of performing arts, the Master of Arts in Arts Tech and Digital Communication at Hong Kong Chu Hai College hosted a symposium last month under the theme “When Performing Arts Meet Arts Tech”.

Following the opening remarks by Professor Fung Kam Wing, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, two distinguished guests shared their professional insights: Mr. Cheung Ho Kin, Artistic Director of the Hong Kong Chung Ying Theatre and Academic Advisor for the program, and Ms. Wong Kai Man, Artistic Director of the JAM Island Theatre. The two industry veterans combined personal experiences to illustrate how technology can transcend traditional spatial and visual limitations in performance, while also providing in-depth analysis of the challenges and solutions encountered in the process of “technology-driven art.” They discussed the industry’s demand for talent with both artistic literacy and technological skills.

The atmosphere at the symposium was vibrant, with students actively asking questions and engaging in discussions with the guests. The event attracted a large number of students and faculty from related fields such as arts and communication, collectively exploring the new possibilities of integrating performing arts with arts technology.
