Chu Hai holds bootcamp for its journalism students

A Bootcamp is being held by the Hong Kong Bureau of CNN at the campus of Chu Hai College of Higher Education (CHCHE) in Tuen Mun for the students of journalism and communication from June 7 to June 11, 2021.
Professor Chiu-kay Tang, Vice President (Academic) of CHCHE, and Mr. Roger Clark, VP and Bureau Chief of CNN Hong Kong, both officiated at the Opening Ceremony of the Bootcamp on Monday, June 7, 2021.
Mr. Roger Clark later delivered a talk to the students and the faculty staff of the Department of Journalism and Communication, CHCHE, on his own passion for the television journalism career and the role of CNN’s Hong Kong Bureau. He also talked about the challenges of covering regional news events in Asia amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Because of the current Pandemic, this Bootcamp is being held in a mixed mode of face-to-face, mainly for local students, and Zoom, for those students who could not come to Hong Kong due to COVID-19.
This bootcamp is part of the Master of Arts in Global Communication programme, which was launched by CHCHE’s Department of Journalism and Communication in September 2020. The Bootcamp was supposed to be held at the Headquarters of CNN in Atlanta, Georgia, USA as the concluding course of the whole Programme. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, both CNN and CHCHE were forced to change the venue of the Bootcamp to Hong Kong.
During the week-long event, the students has been given a tour to CNN’s newsroom and studio in Wong Chuk Hang on Hong Kong Island on the second day. They will also be briefed on CNN’s news setup in the Asian Region, the daily operations of newsgathering, digital operations in Hong Kong, news and features production, etc. The camp will be wrapped up with a talk on CNN anchoring and reporting by CNN’s anchor Anna Coren on the last day, Friday, 11 June, 2021.
The Master of Arts in Global Communication programme was the first in a series of Master’s programmes to be launched by the Department of Journalism and Communication, Chu Hai College of Higher Education (CHCHE). It is an interdisciplinary programme focusing on the global aspects of communication in the new media era. It is currently taking in application for admission from local and Mainland applicants for the coming academic year of 2021-22.
