Practical Study in Art and Technology: Experiencing Creativity through Field Learning

Within a single month, faculty and students of the Arts Tech and Digital Communication programme at Hong Kong Chu Hai College participated in three enriching cultural study trips, experiencing first‑hand the dynamic interplay between art, technology, and contemporary creativity.

The journey began at the M+ Museum, where the group explored the exhibition Echoes of the Mountains and Waters. Through ink paintings, installations, and video works, students engaged with the aesthetics of traditional Eastern landscape art and reflected on how cultural heritage can be reinterpreted in contemporary visual language.

The second visit brought the group to Art Basel Hong Kong, a world‑class international art fair. Immersed in diverse artistic practices and avant‑garde expressions, students broadened their global artistic perspectives and gained insights into current trends in contemporary art.

The final study trip led the group to FutureScope, an immersive art space at Kai Tak. Here, they experienced innovative performances that seamlessly integrated cutting‑edge technology with artistic creation, highlighting new possibilities for sensory engagement and storytelling.

Together, these three field learning activities bridged classroom theory with real‑world practice. Through immersive experiences, students developed a deeper understanding of the integration of artistic creation, digital technology, and cross‑media expression, while enhancing their aesthetic sensibilities and practical skills. The activities fully embodied the programme’s teaching philosophy of uniting knowledge with practice.
