Hong Kong Theatre Luminary Perry Chiu Shares Insights on Creativity and Industry

Hong Kong Chu Hai College hosted a seminar titled “Creativity and Industry in Theatre” on February 25, 2026. The event featured distinguished actress, director, and producer Perry Chiu as guest speaker, offering students and faculty valuable perspectives on building sustainable careers in the performing arts.

The seminar attracted participants from across disciplines, eager to learn from Perry’s extensive experience in acting, directing, producing, and theatre management. Drawing on her acclaimed performances in The Golden Cangue, Ruan Lingyu, and musicals like  Sound of Music, Perry illustrated the ongoing balance between creative vision and industry realities.

Following her keynote, a panel discussion explored topics such as creative collaboration, production and funding challenges, and shifting audience expectations in the digital age. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, allowing students to seek practical advice on audition techniques and theatre entrepreneurship.

Representatives from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences emphasized the importance of industry engagement, noting that direct interaction with practitioners like Perry Chiu enriches students’ understanding of both the artistry and resilience required to thrive in the field.
