The Department of Journalism and Communication of Chu Hai College of Higher Education, founded in 1968, was among the first Journalism Studies at undergraduate level offered in Hong Kong. The Department has been providing a 4-year university curriculum since its establishment, with our graduates serving and working hard in the local media and gaining due acclaim far and wide for their dedication and enthusiasm.
University education is for inspiring knowledge, cultivating personality and fostering characteristics to benefit the learner for life. The Department enjoys academic exchange agreements with The School of Journalism of Fudan University in Shanghai, The Communication University of China in Beijing, Fu Jen Catholic University in Taipei, Shih Hsin University in Taipei, and Dankook University in Korea. Every year, our students take an active part in various kinds of exchange programmes.
In order to broaden students’ horizons, each year the Department organizes various tours and exchange visits to different localities in Mainland China and overseas. Thus far, we have been to Shanghai, Shandong, Sichuan, Nanjing, Kunming, Xiamen, Xi’an, Chongqing, Hefei, Gobi Desert, Malaysia, BBC London Headquarters and so on.
To equip students to cope with globalization, the Department has put an explicit emphasis of global vision into the curriculum with an aim to nurture students with attributes of cross-sector, cross-culture and cross-territory.
The Department hopes that our students may be based in Hong Kong but their view is on the world.
