HK boy grows up in working holiday

I have not regretted for having working holiday in the past two years, which makes me grow up more,” Alex Tam Tsz Pang said.

Working holiday is a popular activity for graduates who would like to stay in a foreign country for one or two years to experience life. Alex is one of them. However, he once worried about his communicating ability.

Alex went to Australia in November 2013. He said, “My English and Mandarin were very poor in the past, I thought they were the main obstacles that hindered me to go abroad. However, I believed that working holiday could bring me a fruitful life, so I went for it.”

Alex travelled five cities in total and thought that Perth was the most favourite city he has ever been. “Perth is my ideal working place. It is quiet and comfortable. The pace of life there is slower than other cities like Sydney,” he said.

I am a farmer

He had got several jobs in Perth, working in a farm, a meat factory, an orchard, and a warehouse. His most unforgettable job was being a private assistant to a warehouse boss. He said, “This job broadened my views. I could not imagine that I could be the private assistant to a boss.”

Teenagers should try it

“I had great memories of working holiday in Australia, and it really changed my life,” Alex said, “It can train me to be more independent. For example, I cooked and washed clothes for myself.” He would not do housework in Hong Kong because his mum did everything for him.

Alex reminded us at last that we must plan well before going for working holiday. “It is good to test our limits, and we can have a lot of fun.”
