General Information

Programme Characteristics

To keep ourselves abreast with the ever-changing media landscape in Hong Kong and elsewhere in the world, we have just completed an overhaul of our Programme for the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Journalism and Communication. The revamped Programme will be available to all students to be admitted in the coming academic year of 2020-21, which is due to begin in the middle of September 2020.

The main characteristics of this Revamp are as follows:

  1. To cut down on the total number of core courses for graduation so that students can devote more time for programme electives and free electives, which can be selected from the other two Programmes of our Department;
  2. To make the Summer Internship course for Year 3 students a core course to ensure that they will go through a period of working in the real-world media environment;
  3. To create a Capstone Project (or Final Year project) for Year 4 students. On one hand, students will be able to extend their internship period from a couple of months to a full-year while on the other hand, they have to complete a research paper at the end of the Capstone Project;
  4. To make it easier for students, who have completed their Associate Degree or Higher Diploma in journalism and/or communication studies, to acquire a top-up degree from our Department.
