JCC and Chinese Martial Arts experts to preserve Hong Kong’s Intangible cultural heritage

Faculty staff and students from the Communication and Crossmedia programme met Chinese martial arts experts to discuss how to use current crossmedia techniques to preserve and disseminate Intangible cultural heritage (ICH), especially in lion dancing and Chinese martial arts in Hong Kong.

Mr Li Fei Piu, Chairman of Tai Shing Pek Kwar Moon Li Fei Piu Martial Arts and Athletic Association; Mr Lam Man Fai and Mr Lam Lok, founders of Hong Kong Qi Gong Tai Ji Association;  Mr Wong Kok Long, Director of Hong Kong Chinese Internal Boxing Association and Hong Kong Tai Chi Association; Mr Luk Wing Shing, Chairman of the Great China Intangible Cultural Heritage Association; Mr Kung Cheung Wei, Vice President and Promotion Director of International Golden Lion and Kylin Performing Arts Association; Mr Chan Kim Fung, Chairman of Martial Arts Club exchanged with JCC teachers Mr Leung Tak Man, Stephen Ma, Chianly Sze and Carlos Hui about cultural preservation ideas, such as mobile apps for story telling or interactive gaming based on virtual (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies.

Intangible Cultural Heritage includes traditions or living expressions inherited from our ancestors and passed on to our descendants, such as oral traditionsperforming artssocial practices, rituals, festive eventsknowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe or the knowledge and skills to produce traditional crafts. Tai Shing Pek Kwar Moon Style (Monkey and Axe Hammer Style), Tai Chi Chuan, lion dance, etc. are intangible cultural traditional items in Hong Kong.

DSE students can apply Year 1 admission through JUPAS (JUPAS Code: JSSC04), while Associate Degree and Higher diploma graduates can gain direct admission to Year 3 entry of our programme.
